Royal Platinum Jubilee Fashion
The anticipation mounts as we launch into Royal Platinum Jubilee Week, and yours truly is madly juggling several ‘Royal Expert’ hats, as I chat to everyone from the Mail Online to OK! Magazine to my lovely followers on my new TikTok account (@themirandaholder in case you haven’t found me yet) about Royal Fashion in all its wonderful forms.

So, in true patriotic form, whilst I am fully immersed in all things Royal, which is one of the most fascinating style topics (and one of my favorites) I thought I might share some interesting Royal Fashion facts with you all.
The Queen loves colour - but there’s actually a very practical reason for our Monarch embracing dopamine dressing - having once famously said “If I wore beige, noone would know who I am” the Queen wears vibrant shades to stand out in a crowd, allowing her public to easily see her. Crowds can often be 5-15 people deep (or more) so this helps with her visibility.
The Queen’s favourite nail polish is ‘Ballet Slippers’ by Essie. Royal Etiquette dictates that nails should be natural or nude, and this is Her Majesty’s go-to. Kate Middleton is also a fan, although both she and Meghan have on occasion broken royal protocol and worn a colour. I wonder what the Queen made of that?!
When Princess Diana married Prince Charles in 1981 at St.Paul’s Cathedral, she wore a David and Elizabeth Emanuel taffeta gown which contained a whopping 10,000+ pearls, with a 25 feet long train!
For the attendees of the Royal Windsor Horse show, silk scarves were a fashion must have! Queen Elizabeth wore them herself as a part of the outfit, swapping hats fro scarves on casual days.
The Queen has an impressive collection of Hermès scarves (one to match every outfit!). The brand even released a limited-edition design on her 90th birthday - the scarf is called Tatersale, it features an equestrian theme and was originally designed by Henri d’Origny in the 1980s.
Did you know that the queen has detailed wardrobe specifications? According to a Daily Telegraph report, the heel height of her shoes is always 5.7cm (2 1/4 inches), with an insole in each shoe for comfort - and these shoes have to be ‘broken in’ by someone ready for the Queen! Dresses worn by Queen Elizabeth must always be below the knee, and her preferred sleeve length is 3/4. Her gloves must always be 15cm (6 inches) in length. And finally, the brim of hats worn by Queen Elizabeth mustn’t be too wide or too tall, or else she might just get stuck climbing out of the car!
Queen Elizabeth loves her handbags - Town & Country have disclosed that she has three Launer staples: the black leather Royale; the black patent Traviata (which has become the brand’s bestselling style), and a third custom-made one without an official name, which the queen carried on official meetings with presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton. She is a thrifty lady and reuses her bags which can be seen at events; and instead of buying a new bag Queen Elizabeth replaces the fittings to keep her bags in top condition.
The Queen also has an umbrella to match every one of her outfits - each season her stylist requests bespoke umbrellas to match her wardrobe! Her favourite umbrella is called the Birdcage from a British brand Fulton. The brand has a royal warrant which certifies its regular provision of umbrellas to the Queen. These umbrellas are dome-shaped and transparent, so the Queen can be seen.
