For The Love Of Denim

I have had a love affair with Donna Ida Denim ever since Donna was a guest on my podcast (listen here). Donna has that magical flair to create timeless design after timeless design, whilst always making them feel fresh and exciting - needless to say I have quite a few pairs! So when she asked me to model for her new collection, how could I say no?! Here are some of the pics, together with a few facts about Jeans that I thought you might enjoy. xx

Interesting Facts About Jeans:

  1. Did you know the word ‘jeans’ comes from the word ‘Genes’, which is actually the French word for the city of Genoa?

  2. Bringing us to the next fact about jeans - jeans are believed to have been invented in Italy, in the city of (you guessed it) Genoa back in 1500’s. Jeans were created to be worn by the Italian navy to wear whilst they were on duty.

  3. Until 1950s ‘jeans’ weren’t known as jeans - they were commonly referred to as ‘overalls’.

  4. Are skinny jeans your go-to? Baggy and bootcut jeans dominated the fashion world in the 50s, 60s and 70s but now more and more people prefer a tighter fit. Skinny jeans are made by mixing denim with elastane which helps the fabric stretch.

  1. Fancy making your own version of the 21st century’s most popular distressed denim style? You can find many tutorials on YouTube to help you achieve the perfect ripped jeans look!

  2. Jeans are the main character of quite a few popular songs! From Neil Diamond releasing ‘Forever in Blue Jeans’ in 1979, to Lana Del Rey’s ‘Blue Jeans’ in 2012.

  3. The creator of the famous denim brand Levi’s, Levi Strauss, NEVER wore a pair of his own jeans. This is because jeans were made for the poorer people, and Levi was a wealthy businessman!

  4. Have you ever noticed that the inside of denim items is always white? This is because the outer (warp) of jeans is dyed indigo. The interior (weft) is not dyed.

  1. The fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent made a comment in 1984 saying: "I wish I had invented blue jeans.... They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity—all I hope for in my clothes."

  2. Did you know: the small pocket inside the larger pocket of jeans was designed for a pocket watch! Now you know why that little pocket is there!

  1. Popular Calvin Klein Jeans ads featured Brooke Shields when she was just 15 - one of the ads was pulled from the air because Brooke said: "Do you want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing." It implied that Brooke wasn't wearing underwear.

  2. In 2007 the BBC News predicted a “death knell for denim”. This was because of “customer fatigue, overexposure...and, frankly, a lack of any new denim styles left."
